COLUMBUS ... COLLECTOR OF TAHITIAN BLACK PEARLS Imagine a swashbuckling, handsome Italian sailing into uncharted seas discovering beautiful, topless Tahitian young girls, although scantily clad, adorned with jewels of gorgeous black pearls. If only I had been there to see with my own eyes how Christopher Columbus had reacted to his discovery of these exotic black pearls of Tahiti! According to exhibits and information gleaned from the wonderful Pearl Museum in Papeete, Tahiti, Columbus gathered the finest of these treasures for himself and brought many back to Europe, where they were used in the crowns of European and Russian royalty as well as in important jewelry for the noble families. Tahitian pearls, although known as black pearls, come in a vast variety of exciting rainbow hues. Indigenous to the warm, calm, remote lagoons of French Polynesia in the South Pacific, these incredibly beautiful gems are born of the black lipped oyster, scientifically termed 'Te ufi is pinctada margaritifera'. |

My wife Helen and I have been designing jewelry for 30 years. These lustrous black pearls have been a great inspiration and constantly test our talents to showcase these gems within pendants, rings, earrings and necklaces, always remembering that the pearls must remain the stars. These objects of beauty are each uniquely created in unforgettable deep, lustrous colors ranging from firefly wing green, peacock greens, aquamarines and rare blues with underlying hues of pinks, aubergine, platinum, silver and gold tones. Ultimately, the choice of proper colors of gold and accompanying precious stones remain crucial to the final result of each unique piece we create. We buy our pearls directly at the auctions in Tahiti, where the finest pearls are auctioned three times a year, exclusively to a few distinguished dealers. Designing and creating the settings are also handled in-house. Therefore we are able to offer high quality at reasonable prices because no middleman's' profits are involved. | ||||
